KEY INSIGHTS
New equipment and detailed curriculum helped very busy P.E. teachers engage students in more physical activity during and after school. Increased exercise improves health and fitness measures more than nutritional education and change in school menus and vending machines alone.
HOW HYP USED THE INSIGHTS
Agreement on realistic success measures for the coalition in the future was part of the outcome of the project.
WHAT WE DID
We interviewed P.E. teachers and program leaders in the St. Louis Public Schools who were involved in an HYP-funded after school program for elementary students. We also designed and led a workshop on impact measures to engage coalition members in discussion about measurable and realistic outcomes.
