Bellefontaine Cemetery

BRAND ASSESSMENT

What do Bellefontaine Cemetery families—and prospective families—value most about the Cemetery? How can we keep better connected with families?

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE

Identify current and prospective families’ interest in current and new offerings from Bellefontaine Cemetery

KEY INSIGHTS

Bellefontaine familiarity events can be publicized as an interesting local tourism outing for multi-generation family members. Parents will view this as an educational, inexpensive family outing for children, and children can learn about local history from sculpture and memorial arts at the Cemetery. Grandparents can share their knowledge of St. Louis history as part of the tour.

HOW BELLEFONTAINE CEMETERY USED THE INSIGHTS

Bellefontaine Cemetery is implementing a public outreach plan to familiarize more local families with this St. Louis historic treasure and its options for family interment and memorialization.

WHAT WE DID

We conducted in-depth telephone interviews followed by a mail survey with representatives of current families whose members are interred at Bellefontaine Cemetery and also interviewed prospective families.

“Green dimensions of Bellefontaine Cemetery (cremation, scattering of cremated remains, green burials, preserving the cemetery in perpetuity and environmentally sustainable practices) are attractive to both current and prospective Bellefontaine families. Prospective families who have visited at least once are most likely to return, most often to participate in Civil War anniversary events and famous person tours. Our families’ survey also told us that detailed maps and parking directions help encourage visitors.”
